Village CCTV coverage

Cadeby Community Trust

Added at 17:46 on 30 January 2025

On the 21st Feb, the Community Trust - the village charitable organisation - have agreed and funded (to a level of £2,500) for CCTV cameras to be installed, on the Church Hall, to cover Church Lane, Rectory Lane and the entrance to Main Street. to record every vehicle entering or leaving the village.

This follows the introduction of Wi-Fi to the Hall in December 2024.

The cameras will record - 24 hours - street focused -

  1. Over sized vehicles (over 7.5 tonnes) entering or leaving the village. Those not delivering locally will be reported to the Police as per LCC Highways/Leicestershire Police advice.
  2. The cameras will also capture suspected speeding cars/time and registration.
  3. They will also be able to record any pre or post suspected crime or individuals committing crime or vehicles affecting our village security.
  4. The information will be retained for 7 days and then wiped clean.
  5. The recording monitors will be kept in the Church Hall.
  6. All data protection policy has and will be adopted as per recommendation - suppliers are certified/approved installers.
  7. H&B plus LCC Highways have been consulted.
  8. LCC Highways have been requested to provide appropriate signage to advance warn all motorists of CCTV coverage.

As well as and insofar as "protecting" our village, the added knock on benefit is - as has been suggested - that residents should inform both their house and car insurance companies of this community initiative as it could result in a lowering of their insurance premiums. Should anyone wish to pursue this line of enquiry, the Trust are more than happy to supply greater detail.
